Last week I went with Jensen's 5th grade class on a 3 day field trip to the Green River Preserve Camp. We had a blast! The weather wasn't the best, but it held out for us during the day and mainly rained the hardest at night. We went on a lot of interesting hikes through the forest and even climbed up the HUGE rock in the picture. It doesn't look that steep in the pictures, but is was about 500 feet up. Even this old lady made it up. Jensen scaled it, like it was nothing, she was a little monkey. Some of the kids did have some trouble and even a few scary moments for them, but everyone made it up. The rock is called Lower Bald. We hiked up the mountain to Lower Bald, scaled it, and then continued to hike to Upper Bald. I was terrified of what Upper Bald would look like since Lower Bald about killed me, but it was nothing. Each hike was about 3 hours so I can now say I have gotten my exercise quota for the year! Jensen wants to return to the camp this summer with a friend, I think she will love it. We got to hunt in the creek for crayfish and salamanders which we found and some other bugs. We learned all about mushrooms and lichen. I did find a yellow jacket's nest in the ground, luckily I didn't step in it. And we now can identify certain animals by looking at their scat (poop)! I like these field trips because they tell you what to and when to eat and then feed you. It was overall a great experience for both of us.
