Kim's first day of school

I started my class today, American Politics in Mass Media, ugh! It is going to be a class that requires a lot of work and in a subject area that I really don't have a strong knowledge base to pull information. Oh well, I will make my way through it. After this class I will be able to answer questions concerning politics with expertise. Oh joy! All the kids are still liking school. Although the teachers have started to pile on the homework. Garrett is having to learn how to study and that is always such a fun period to get through, NOT! He not only has more words each to learn how to spell, but also definitions. They are trying to teach them time management by giving their assignments for the whole week, but not checking to make sure they are done until Friday, so Garrett thinks he can wait until Thursday to do everything! So we are already having the homework battles about what I think needs to be done and what he thinks needs to be done. My nephew, Holden, also started school today. I can't believe he is the first grade. He did great on his first day. I know he will have a great year!

First Day of School 2008

Today is the first day of school. Everybody was very excited about going back to school to see their friends. Not so sure anybody was looking forward to the work! Riley is in the 6th grade this year and gets a locker. The decor of her locker took a lot of thought and effort. Jensen is in the 5th grade and will have the same teacher Riley had last year. Garrett is in the 2nd grade and all his buddies are in his class. Everyone got haircuts for school, Garrett is sportin' a new look. He loves it because he doesn't have much to brush and maintain. I am alone in our house and trying to catch up with everything that I let slide this Summer. I was looking forward to my time alone, but I must admit that I miss my kids. I have been thinking about each one all day and wondering if they are having a good or bad day. I am keeping my fingers crossed for all good! If you notice Riley's nose, she got sunburned on her trip to Hilton Head with the Smiths. Needless to say, it peeled and she picked and the result is a big scab across the bridge of her nose. Now she knows why I am always on her to put sunscreen on. I don't think she'll make that mistake again!

Last Weekend of Summer 2008

This past weekend was the last weekend of Summer for the kids. The girls each had a friend over, Kathleen Griffith and Maddy Carens, to spend the night. Garrett went to spend the night with his best friend, Louis Griffith. The girls played outside until 9:30 p.m., I remember those Summer nights playing outside, what fun! The next day, Neil constructed an Olympic competition for them. The girls paired off into teams and had to make up a country name and flag for their team. Riley and Kathleen were the country of Barrier Island of Rileen. Jensen and Maddy were the country of PestoRubic. They each had great explanations for the name of their teams, it was really cute. The competition got fierce and some yellow flags were given out for poor sportsmanship. Both teams won many medals and fun was had by all.

More pics from Hilton Head Island

Hilton Head with The Smiths

Last week our friends, Janice and Lizzie (our goddaughter) Smith, came to visit for a couple of days. They ended up taking Riley and Jensen back to Columbia and then Hilton Head with them for a visit. Garrett and I drove to Hilton Head on Sunday to spend the night and bring the girls back the next day. The girls had a blast hanging out with Lizzie and they were never bored. We all had a great time in Hilton Head. Now it is back to reality and to get geared for the start of school. Riley had her first Company Ballet class last night and so it begins. My life will now be in my car until June 2009!

More Myrtle Beach pics

Dance Caravan-Myrtle Beach

After Wilmington, we drove to Myrtle Beach so Riley could attend a four day dance camp. The Clarks came with us and while Riley was dancing, we hung out by the pool. She really enjoyed the camp and we really enjoyed the hotel. One night, we played putt-putt. Since we never added up the scores, we are not sure who won, but it was either Riley or me.

Boatin' Fun

Uncle John took us all out on his boat for some fun. The kids loved it and of course, Jimmy James always has a blast ! The water was absolutely beautiful, it was SO clear! Aunt Jenn needs to work on her sunscreening skills, look at Holden's mask, poor boy. I will give him this picture when he is older and wants something to hold over his mother. Unfortunately, little Reecie got a stomach bug the second day and was unable to go out. He is all better now. The Gaddum's really know how to show a family a good time! Thanks!

I have finally had a moment to download my pics from our most recent trip so I will try to update.
